چکیده

Introduction: SiC is the best-studied type of presolar grains [1]. Thousands of individual grains have been measured for their C and Si isotopic compositions [2-4] and many of these have been measured for additional isotopic systems, as well. Despite this wealth of data and the fact that Ti is one of the most abundant trace elements in SiC, only approximately 110 SiC grains have had their Ti isotopic compositions determined [3,5-8] and of these, most suffer from selection effects. Specifically, the Ti data for mainstream SiC, thought to have formed in the outflows of lowmass (1–3MO) C-rich Asymptotic Giant Branch (AGB) stars [9], have not been obtained from a representative sample of the larger population as a whole. The grains analyzed have been chosen either for their high Ti concentrations [5] or their large Si and Si excesses [3].

Supernova mixing to reproduce isotopic ratios of presolar grains

Presolar grains are considered to have traces in their birth before the solar system formation in their isotopic and elemental features. Most of silicon carbide type X (SiC X) and low density graphite grains show the excesses of 12C and 28Si. These isotopic features suggest that SiC X and low density graphite are originating from supernovae. On the other hand, elemental signatures of the grains...

Supernova Nucleosynthesis and Application to the Isotopic Ratios of Individual Presolar Grains

Introduction: Presolar grains found in primitive meteorites have large isotopic heterogeneities of orders of magnitude. Because of the large heterogeneities, presolar grains are thought to have traces of the nucleosynthesis before they were formed [1]. Silicon carbide (SiC), low density graphite, and silicon nitride are believed to be formed in the ejecta of type II supernovae [1,2]. Their isot...

Continued Study of Presolar Graphite from Murchison Separate Kfa1

Introduction: Presolar graphite was isolated from the Murchison meteorite [1] only 3 years after the discovery of presolar SiC [2]. Yet it has not been studied as extensively as SiC. One of the reasons is that trace element concentrations in graphite grains are, in general, not high enough to perform isotopic analysis with sufficient precision. A new type of ion microprobe, the NanoSIMS, has re...

Polytype distribution of circumstellar silicon carbide: Microstructural characterization by transmission electron microscopy

Silicon carbide (SiC) is a particularly interesting species of presolar grain because it is known to form on the order of a hundred different polytypes in the laboratory, and the formation of a particular polytype is sensitive to growth conditions. Astronomical evidence for the formation of SiC in expanding circumstellar atmospheres of asymptotic giant branch (AGB) carbon stars is provided by i...

IRON AND NICKEL ISOTOPIC RATIOS IN PRESOLAR SiC GRAINS

We report the first Fe isotopic anomalies and the first Ni isotopic ratio measurements in presolar SiC grains of separate KJG from the Murchison meteorite. With NanoSIMS, we analyzed Fe and Ni in 37 X grains from Type II supernovae and 53 SiC grains of other types. TheNi/Fe and Co/Fe ratios in grains of all types aremuch higher than in the gas from which the grains are believed to have condense...
